We’re excited to announce a new technology partnership with VTEC Lasers & Sensors!

VTEC and Spectrik have joined forces in an exciting partnership aimed at accelerating the development of an ammonia sensor based on integrated photonics. Our collective goal is to produce a sensor that is not only robust, but also affordable, highly accurate, and easily scalable.

Spectrik will lead the charge in developing an ammonia sensor that serves to the entire livestock sector. Our initial focus will be on serving pig farms, with plans to expand into poultry stables, and eventually make a significant impact in the dairy industry. Leveraging our extensive expertise and established network in policies, environmental challenges, and stakeholder landscape, we are committed to develop a sensor that meets the industry standards.

In this way, the collaboration aims to provide a sensor that can be integrated by stable manufacturers and/or air cleaning system suppliers to provide a total solution to the livestock farmer. By adding this sensor, we want to add value to both society as well as the entire value chain of the livestock sector.

Drawing on over a decade of experience in integrated photonics and IoT, VTEC is the partner to contribute to the product development process. With a wealth of knowledge and a proven track record, we are dedicated to delivering a functional prototype that can be quickly transitioned into large-scale production.

Rick Jongen, CEO of Spectrik, emphasizes the pivotal role of VTEC’s expertise: “The extensive know-how and experience in both fundamental research in the integrated photonics domain as well as the experience in product development is crucial to reduce the time to market and leverage costs in the best way in the early phase of Spectrik. Especially with this product which has the potential to be part of the solution to get out of the nitrogen crisis. The learnings of VTEC will definitely help to prevent making decisions which will result in problems in the long term.”

Jan Mink, CEO of VTEC, on the Spectrik challenges: Spectrik is taking on a huge challenge in turning the current discussion on ammonia pollution into a fact based, constructive approach enabling proper decisions on the way forward in the nitrogen crisis. VTEC is happy to support this challenge in deepening and speeding up the development using integrated photonics.

This collaboration represents a significant leap towards streamlining the product development cycle. Our shared aspiration is to provide farmers with perspective and to actively contribute to a sustainable solution for the nitrogen crisis, and beyond. Together, we are determined to make a meaningful impact on the future of agriculture.
